Setting Effective
Targets

The best targets focus on behaviours you can actually do. Instead of vague promises, choose specific study actions that will help you improve your habits.

🎯 Focus on actions, not intentions

Choose something you will do, not just how you hope to feel. Behavioural targets are far easier to follow through on than motivational ones.

🔍 Be specific and concrete

A strong target is clear enough to act on straight away. Vague goals like “work harder” are hard to measure and easy to ignore.

🔗 Link it to a habit you want to improve

Connect your target to the area highlighted in your profile. The more relevant it feels, the more likely you are to follow through.

💬 Make it easy to discuss and review

Good targets can be checked and improved with your tutor. If you can’t describe it clearly, it probably isn’t specific enough yet.

Examples of strong targets

“I will use self-quizzing instead of re-reading notes”
“I will complete two timed exam questions each week”
“I will ask at least one question in each lesson”
“I will review my planner every Sunday evening”

Remember

Outcome goals matter — but progress starts with changes in behaviour.
