Comprehensive professional development programs to empower your teaching staff with VESPA methodologies
Introductory Session
An introduction to VESPA, looking at non-cognitive behaviours associated with academic performance. Exploring two activities per element of the model, ten altogether, making a comprehensive introductory curriculum. A chance for staff to respond to the materials and try them out, then consider how a year of pastoral support might be structured.
Effective Coaching
Exploring how we can move from the culture of brief, ineffective conversations to a high-impact coaching model. A three-part model for structured conversations with a hundred coaching questions, transcripts and videos of young people talking about study challenges. Staff discuss them in groups and suggest ways to intervene and boost performance.
Building Independent Learning
Establishing principles and expectations of what proactive independent study looks like at GCSE and A level; looking at strategies for aligning and embedding these expectations. Ideas for raising levels of proactive problem-solving so students are less likely to wait for instruction; an examination of expectations at university level and in the world of work.
